Sandy Lighthouse

Yesterday evening I was catching up on emails and things and I found out that a friend was diagnosed with breast cancer yesterday.  She had been getting things checked out at the doctor and her results were in yesterday.  She is having a mastectomy on her left breast on Wednesday.  I can’t imagine how she’s feeling right now, but I wanted her to know that I was thinking of her and praying for her.  So today’s card was made with that purpose in mind.

I wanted to make a card that was both warm and soothing.  Something that feels like curling up under a blanket with a mug of hot chocolate when there’s a blizzard outside.  So, I grabbed the new Baja Breeze and started looking for colors to pair with it.  I had lots of different options but I finally decided on Close to Cocoa.

The Baja Breeze is stamped with the retired Linen background stamp and the faux stitching is in Close to Cocoa.  The lighthouse is also stamped in Close to Cocoa on Very Vanilla.  I used hemp twine to add a little bit of masculinity without over doing it.  Along the opening, I used some double stick tape all the way down the edge of the card and then I  poured brown sand over it.  I tapped at the card for a long time to release all the loose sand.  Then I took my thumb and pressed down on the sand that was left to make sure it was secured to the card.  Here’s a better look.

The inside of the card has the verse “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.  Psalm 119:105″ stamped in Baja Breeze on Very Vanilla card stock.

I really wanted my friend to feel like I was sending her a hug and wrapping her in prayer.  I wanted the card to be warm and inviting, but with a little bit of masculinity to remind her that God was comforting her.  It seems like a very ambitious plan for a greeting card, but I feel good about it.

Well, I hope you all have a great weekend!  I have plenty of things on my to do list, but hopefully I’ll get to squeeze in some stamping time.  I also have to work on the upcoming October Newsletter (which you should sign up for)  and get the specials for October ready to go.

Keep your eye out for both the newsletter and the new Stampin’ Up!® specials.  Meet you right back here next time!

Happy Stamping,
